30” Hobbies-Bowman Speedboat “Greyhound” in Original Box, Wooden Toy Boat England for Sale

Hobbies-Bowman of Dereham, England is famous for its steam and clockwork driven model boats, but did you know they made rubber/elastic driven boats as well? The “Greyhound” by Hobbies-Bowman is one of those boats! In the late 1920’s and early 1930’s Bowman Models produced a wide range of boats for Hobbies, Ltd. These boats were sometimes produced under the Hobbies brand name and in later times under Hobbies-Bowman. There were nine different rubber-powered boats made by Bowman. Five of these were individually named and the remaining 4 were their “Aeroboats” run.

This Hobbies- Bowman speedboat is a whopping 30” in length and approximately 2 ¾” in height and 3 ¼” wide. It is made of wood and metal, and is painted three different colors. It says “Greyhound” on both the starboard and port bows.  Running along the forward part of the keel there is a brass guard plate. The rudder, start and stop switch, and single propeller are also made of a similar brass. This piece is complete, working, and original in a wooden box marked with the Bowman emblem. The propeller spins beautifully just give it a few spins, and set the switch! It even includes its original shipping label as well its original railway stamp on the box. There is of course paint chipping and wear that comes with age and play. This toy appears to have been used, but well loved and cared for.
