Hubley Harley Davidson Motorcycle- Turning Head *SOLD*

Hubley Harley Davidson Motorcycle- Turning Head

Here we have an early Hubley Harley Davidson cop on motorcycle. It appears to be from the 1931 catalog, or just at the peak of the Great Depression. Hence, we don’t see many of these come to market; it was a rich kids size of Hubley, not the smaller more affordable size.

Differences in cast iron toys are subtile. Collectors will note that Harley motorcycle toys by Hubley went through an evolution where fewer and fewer parts were used. Early toys, like this one, would add extra castings (and manufacturing cost) for features like a swiveling head. Later models of Harleys cast the head as one with the body.

The wheels are metal and the entire body of the toy is cast iron. It is a heavy motorcycle toy.

Paintwork is a glossy olive green with gold highlights and flesh tones for the face and hands. The fragile triple headlight set is tipped with gold and in original unbroken condition.

The Hubley Harley is pictured next to a lighter and measuring tape for a size comparison.

Our research shows that this toy was likely based on a 1929 Harley . -Possibly it is a JDH high performance twin cam.  We note that only in 1929 and 1930 were the dual headlights offered.   We also show a 1931 Harley with cops for contrast and some great photos that were on Pinterest for comparison; you can let us know your thoughts.
