Speaking Dog Cast Iron Mechanical Bank *SOLD*

Speaking Dog Cast Iron Mechanical Bank for sale

Shepard Hardware Co, Buffalo, NY

Place a coin on the girl’s tray and then press the lever by the dog’s foot.  The Dog opens his mouth and the girl’s arm lowers the coin into the bank mouth.  Our toy is the red dress variation and the dog has frosted ears and feet for highlighting.  The collar is gold and base in a dark maroon.

There is a nice bonus action with this toy– the lever opens the trap, and also moves the dog’s tail with its mouth.  Then the tail has a balance and swings like a wag a few times post-operation.

Condition appears all original and the toy is an original casting.  It is nice to find such a great example that’s over 100 years old!

This particular bank is in good used condition but has paint loss around the yellow base trim as well as seat, tray, and girl’s face.  The dog’s paint is good with high point wear as shown.

The Patent date for this toy was October 20th, 1885 and it was designed by Charles G Shepard & Peter Adams Jr of Buffalo, New York.

We should also point out that this is one of the few bank toys specifically marketed to girls.  Boys as well as girls appreciate “human’s” best friend.
