Hispania Tin Toys-Creations- A Spanish Toy History

While French, German, and American tint toys of the early 20th century are well documented, we have only traces of Spanish toy maker data.  Hispania was a magnificent tin toy maker, and the culmination of a partnership between tin toy maker “Enrique Rais y Cia” ( founded in 1880 in Barcelona, Spain) and Roca Fariols.  Hispania was founded in 1907.

It was our pleasure to learn about a Enrique Rais y Cia (or Cie) toy exhibition in the early 1900s with Hispania.  In English, this would translate to Enrique Rais and Company.  Enrique’s company logo appears below for reference.

The company made toys from metal in Barcelona, Spain as reflected by the Art Nouveau card below.  Then recently there has been a book by Schiphorst that shares some Enrique Rais / Hispania history and cataloging. We actively seek other data, new cataloging, and pictures from the company.

As a hint of the company’s work, see the tin ship below by Hispania.  Its deep hull and tall proportions are a hallmark of the maker. We are looking for similar historic tin toys.
