1920s Citroen C4 Clockwork Tin Oil Tanker Truck *SOLD*

1920s Andre Citroen C4 Clockwork Tin Oil Tanker Truck 17” L

C. mid-late 1920s, this large scale (roughly 1/10) tin truck is a real eye catcher when it’s taking up most of a shelf.   Beginning in 1923, Citroen began manufacturing these promotional cars, modeled directly from their own cars. Acclaimed as “perfectly scaled replicas”, Citroen toys are almost exact, right down to the hinges in the door.

This is one of their largest toys from the line, a C4 Oil Tank Truck. Features opening driver door, steering, and even a functional brass spigot fitted to the rear of the tank.

The truck sits on four thick black Pneu Michelin Supercomfort tire (made in France). The rear wheels are attached to a clockwork windup motor that is still very strong and working.

Condition is fair, but almost all original.  The truck roof is a likely repaint.  Noticeable are the radiator cap replacement piece, and the cap for the tank (although it matches nicely). Mild scratching and light loss to the original black-flecked red paint on the body. Tank shows some moderate oxidation, all three Citroen emblems remain visible. Front right tire missing nut.

Among all of the Tin Cars I’ve had the pleasure of holding, I have to wholeheartedly admit that Citroens are some of my favorite. Not only are they just beyond amazing display pieces, the detailing and size just bring it home for me.

Truck measures 17” Long x 6-3/4” Tall
