Antique Early 1904-1908 French Hand Painted Jouet Francais Open Tonneau Windup Bing Style Tin Car

This was a bit of a mystery, but after much research we believe this to be an antique early 1904-1908 hand painted French (Jouet Francais) open tonneau tin windup car. This is very similar in style to the 1902 Bing open tonneau.

This is a great rather large relic piece. The rubber tires are in great condition, but are petrified as we often find with pieces of this age. The steering works and turns the wheels. The clockwork mechanism is wound with a key that is included. The vehicle does roll forward with some encouragement, but when lifted the mechanism runs very well. We did not over wind to test this. The right back wheel comes off if you aren’t careful, but is stable enough to use. We also noticed some white house paint spatter on the back end, we did not try to remove it as we believe it to be fused in the paint.

Our example of this French (Jouet Francais)  open tonneau car is in great all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. The paint on this is in great overall condition for a toy of this age. This piece shows the usual patina, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. It is approximately 11” L x 4 ¼” W x 7 ¾” H.
