Antique GeLy by Georg Levy Mechanical Litho Tin Donkey German Toy for Sale

We have for you an antique German GeLy by Georg Levy mechanical lithographed tin penny donkeytoy. It stands about 3 1/8″ tall, wags his tail and opens his mouth when you move him. There is small bit of very slight surface rust on the back as shown in the photos. It says “Made in Germany”, “190 GeLy” on the base of the toy. This humble little tin toy has survived in such great condition that anyone would be lucky to own this little guy. Perhaps, a starter toy for the new tin toy collector or a cute addition to any tin toy collection?

A little history about GeLy:  Georg Levy manufactured toys under the GeLy trademark in Nuremberg, Germany from 1920 – 1971. For several years George Levy was partners with Hubert Kienberger (HuKi), they produced automotive toys under the Kienberger name “Kiko” until 1920 when he launched his own firm and began producing toys under the GeLy trademark.

Unfortunately, in 1934 under the Nazi regime Georg was no longer able to work at his own company because he was of Jewish decent. Eventually, GeLy was acquired by Karl Ochs and the name was changed to “Nuremberg Tin Toy Factory”.
