Antique S. Guntherman Fire Engine Tin Windup Toy For Sale

Our tin toy is likely 120 years old.  This cab over design was popular in Europe circa 1905.

The fire engine winds up properly and works with moving steering.  Early and original tin windup that works and oscillates into an S-curve for driving.  All figures are included, with one loose figure on the middle bench.

Paint is flaked, but original.  Tires are likely replaced.  The boiler appears to be brass with a beautiful patina.

Rarity on this toy is about a 9 of 10, it is an incredible find!

S. Gunthermann Toys History

Nuremberg, Germany

1877 – 1965 

Founder: Sigfried Gunthermann 

Specialty: Began producing tinplate mechanical cars in 1898; also, a number of comic and character wind-ups in the early 1960s. When founder died in 1890, his widow married Adolph Weigel; toys from that period on bore makers mark with a shield inside circle and initials A.S.G.W.

Wiegels initials were removed following his death in 1919. After this point S.G. often appears on the toys for the founders initials, Sigfried Gunthermann. Company was acquired by Siemens in 1965.
