Auto-Crat Shapleigh Hardware Co. ca. 1918 Wooden Red Cross Ambulance 

This piece is a ca. 1918 wooden Red Cross ambulance manufactured by a very obscure toy maker called Auto-Crat. We were able to find a 1918 catalog for various similar wooden Auto-Crat toys from Shapleigh Hardware Co. of St. Louis, Missouri. 

While this seems like a basic wood toy, it does have a steering column that turns the wheels and open and close rear doors. This version of this toy is a highly desirable and hard to find. 

This piece is in great all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories and wear that are to be expected from age and play.
