Animate Toys Woodhaven Metal Tin Lithographed “Baby Haymaker” in Box Marx Style Farm Toys

This toy deserves to be rescued and was an extremely tough toy to research.  It comes from a smaller New York maker, Animate Toys/Woodhaven Metal Stamping Co. Inc. of Brooklyn, New York whose work tended to not survive as well as others.

Our best estimate places this in the late 1920s.  Tinsmithing is primitive and we get a very early fluid/spring dampener in the rear tractor axle.  This was also used in early 1915-era toys by the same company.  You are supposed to pull back the toy and then release the dampened spring energy.  At this point, it barely works because the oil is gummed up.

Condition is used.  The box is professionally restored with a box liner but survives. The box has front damage.  The art is great and the look is very much like a Marx toy.  The tractor’s hitch is replaced.  One hay set of rakes/cutters is missing.  Otherwise, we have a great toy for playing with or displaying.  We have not seen another boxed example offered in one 20 years, so it is extremely rare.
