Durable Toys Duracolor Popeye Animated Film Set #50 in Store Display Box 

We have for you a ca. 1930s, very hard to find (in any condition) store display set of “Duracolor Films” set #50 animated Popeye the Sailor films for use with the Uncle Sam’s Projector and the Durotone Talkie System that was manufactured by the Durable Toy & Novelty Company of Cleveland, Ohio/New York City, New York. 

This is a complete in box no. 50 set of Popeye animated films (no sound). The boxes are in great condition and all films are included. The standing part of the box is reinforced with a piece of cardboard to keep it from bending and tearing.

• Pop Eye in Love’s Labor Won 
• Pop Eye Desert Isle 
• Pop Eye in The Hero 
• Pop Eye in The Duck Hunt 

These pieces are in great all original condition with no breaks, repairs, restorations, or touch-ups. These pieces show the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories, and wear that is to be expected from age and display. A brief history of The Durable Toy & Novelty Company of Cleveland, Ohio/New York City, New York/Patterson, New Jersey/Hackensack, New Jersey: 

1907 to 1957 (bought by Western Stamping Company of Jackson, Michigan) 

Founder: Arthur Jacobs & George C. Beresford 

Specialty: Toy mechanical banks and cash registers, toys, board games, and animated films and equipment. Durable started in Cleveland, Ohio with offices in New York City, New York. In 1926, Durable was moved to Patterson, New Jersey then eventually to Hackensack, New Jersey. Then in 1957, The Durable Toy & Novelty Company was purchased by the Western Stamping Company of Jackson, Michigan, and manufacturing was moved overseas. 

Best known Toys: Durable Toys held at least five different trademarks for the words “Uncle Sam’s” and its logos. Most known toys are Duracolor animated film sets, Uncle Sam’s Projector, the Durotone Talkie System, and the Uncle Sam’s Bank and Cash Registers.
