Ernst Plank Steam Toy Workshop *SOLD*

Ernst Plank Steam Toy Workshop

This workshop was another unexpected find and purchased from the original owners.  The German descent family immigrated to the U.S. around the early 1900s with this item.  The workshop was run under the Christmas tree for generations.

Our E.P. shop is a desirable variation without an engine, but instead extra tools and then a light.  The light is a replacement and we don’t recommend trying the wiring, but it is still there.

The base, or plinth, would normally have a paper dress up covering with tile style pattern.  After consulting with a few collectors, we will offer it without the paper to show it’s originality.  Later we may find a proper replacement.

The upper wheels, known as a transmission, is a masterful setup with numerous small wheels, then larger wheels based on the equipment and “gearing” required.  The main pulley can freely spin and would use either an electric motor or a steam engine for power.

Lathes and hammers operate properly and shafts turn.  One hammer shaft is missing.

The grinder with hopper, likely for coolant in the real world, operates.  The far side drill press properly spins.  Buffer and grinder pads are original and present.

This piece is in fair to good all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories and wear that are to be expected from age and play. This is approximately 19″ L x 10” W x 16” H.  We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.
