Fairbanks Deluxe Mother of Pearl Banjo Number 3 ca 1905 *SOLD*

Fairbanks Deluxe Mother of Pearl Banjo Number 3 ca 1905 For Sale

We took a detour to help a friend and have assisted with one amazing insturment– A Fairbanks Banjo from the early 1900s.  This is a super deluxe Number 3 that is the subject of a banjo making book and comes from the estate of esteemed industrial designer Peter Zorn.

Detailing includes extensive use of mother of pearl in the fret decorations as well as throughout the neck.  We have a Grecian urn, Tri-leaf design, stars, and then custom scribed fret markings.

Carving is deluxe on the back of the neck where it joins the banjo body.  Clamps and main body components in metal are still a lustrous nickel plating.  Pegs are likely pre ban ivory.  The neck has a central ebony inlay for extra decoration.

Neck and body properly match.

Overall our five string banjo by Fairbanks is a treasure and work of art as well as operating instrument.  It deserves the proper home and has been mentioned in conjunction with Nashville as “museum worthy”.

Metal finger picks, working tuner, shoulder strap, and velvet lined case are included.
