Hubley Harley Davidson Cast Iron in Orange with Policeman *SOLD*

Hubley Harley Davidson Cast Iron in Orange with Policeman For Sale

This orange variation of the venerable Harley Police Motorcycle deserves great respect and awe.  The Hubley USA Manufacturing company had this toy tooled up and ready to go in the early 1930’s, just during the depression.  It was hovering near the top of the product line in size and price, so a tough toy to get (and swallow the price).  Surviving examples are prized.

There is such an interest in this Harley that it has been copied in blue, but not in this orange or with this level of smooth casting detail.  The cylinders and chain drive are quite well rendered, as is the rear light, seat, and all things front fork & fender.  It is a testament to the casting and pattern maker’s skills.

Size is roughly 9 X 5 1/2 X 3 1/2 inches.

The tank sticker for Harley Davidson is still intact with about 85% of the fragile marking still in place.  Gold highlights are still present on the twin cylinder heads.  The rear rubber tire is original, but the front is a replacement.  Training gears are original.  The policeman driver is an excellent lead replacement figure.

All things Hubley and Harley have a strong following, so it is our pleasure to offer this iconic toy.

Hubley Mfg. Co. Lancaster, Pennsylvania
1894 to date
Slogan: “They`re Different”
Founder: John E. Hubley
Specialty: Brand name: Lancaster Brand Iron Toys. Originally manufactured electric toy train equipment and parts. Purchased Safety Buggy Co. factory and moved to site in 1909. First manufactured cast-iron toys, horse-drawn wagons and fire engines, circus trains, and cap guns. Toy autos became the headliners in 1930s. By quickly converting to cheaper smaller toys during the Depression, they avoided financial woes experienced by many other toy companies. Iron shortages in WWII and commitments to fill war contracts did stop the toy division in 1942, until after the war.. The name was later changed to Gabriel Industries and still existed as a division of CBS as of 1978.
