Jackie the Hornpipe Dancer by Strauss Toys
Tin Jackie the Hornpipe Dancer is a sleeper of a toy. At first the all white toy doesn’t grab the attention, then we see subtile Navy (appropriate) Blue accents. Then looking at the top of the dance deck we see brown. -Then notice it is decking.
Then we look at the base closer with decking then realize it is a ship’s hull! The base is not only a ship’s hull but it moves slowly so it actually becomes a vehicle for the dancing sailor. Our windup is original and is geared for slow forward boat action along with a windup dancing man.
Length is approximately 8 1/2″ .
Paintwork has some crackle on the dancer as well as ship, but otherwise the toy is in all original and excellent condition. Best of all the Navy ship’s crest is in very good to excellent condition on the bow.

For those that didn’t know, this is a traditional Irish jig. The “Traditional Hornpipe” dance is played and then dancers tend to keep their upper body erect. Just the legs tend to bend and the footwork is quick paced. Arms tend to rest at the side.

Also of note, Strauss toys predate Marx toys, so they are quite challenging to find in this superior condition. Age is circa 1920.
