Karl Bub ca. 1910’s Tin Lithographed Windup O Gauge Train Set with Locomotive, Coal & Passenger Car Made for the U.S. Market 

This is a ca. 1910’s tin, lithographed, windup O gauge train set manufactured by Karl Bub of Nuremberg, Germany and made for the U.S. market. 

This working train set when wound with it’s key goes in a straight line pulling the cars along with it. The key that comes with is not original,but works to wind it. The hand brakes work to stop and start the locomotive. The driver’s side buffer is a repair/replacement. The wheels on the locomotive and base appear to be cast metal and the wheels on the coal and passenger car are made of tin. The tops of all of the cars and the locomotive are made of lithographed tin. All tin tabs and hitches are present.  

Our example of this train set is in great all original condition with no touch ups. These pieces show the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. The train is approximately 15” all together with the locomotive being 6 ½” L, the coal car being 3 ¼” L, and the passenger car being 5 ¾” L. A brief history of Karl Bub of Nuremberg, Germany:

Karl Bub founded this company in 1851 in Nüremberg, Germany. As all the other toy manufacturers in Nüremberg, Karl Bub intended his company to produce merry go-rounds, fountains, carts, horse-drawn street cars, fire engines, and other tin toys both with, and without mechanical (clockwork) drive units. American toy train collectors are familiar with the ‘KBN’ trademark, which stands for ‘Karl Bub Nüremberg’. Bub made a superbly enameled and later lithographed line of clockwork tin transportation toys including trains.
