Kenton Army Motor Truck Large Cast Iron *SOLD*

Kenton Army Motor Truck large cast iron for sale

Enjoy the lines of this absolutely stunning cast iron from the early 1900s.  This WWI modeled stake truck was cast in black iron and painted a medium olive green.  Silver, gold , and red highlights were added to this fragile toy.  Ours is in, for the age, near mint.  There is light wear on the wheels, light chipping on the body, and then scuffs on the figures.  All is in line with its age.

The driver and co-rider appear original and proper for this toy.  We have never seen this toy complete before and in such great condition.

The truck could not be found in our Kenton catalogs, and was likely a limited production, as the end of WWI likely curtailed its production.  Then of course the fragile stakes on the truck bead weren’t the most durable.  Our toy is undamaged original, but similar trucks we have seen have many broken stakes.

Kenton Hardware Co. Kenton, Ohio
1890 – 1952
Founder: F.M. Perkins (Patented line of refrigerator hardware).
Specialty: Toy production began in 1894 with a line of horse-drawn fire equipment, banks, and toy stoves. Renamed Kenton Hardware in 1900. Became part of mammoth National Novelty Corp. merger in 1903, it continued its toy line under the name Wing Mfg. Co. Involved in several unsuccessful takeovers, it eventually emerged as a separate unit, the Kenton Hardware Co., and again produced toys successfully from 1920-1935. Kenton ceased production in 1952 and assets were sold in 1953. The Littlestown Hardware & Foundry acquired many Kenton toy designs and marketed them under the brand “Utexiqual”. Littlestown folded in 1982. Modern collectors have to thank Kenton collector Robert Saylor and all of his tireless research on Kenton toys; his cataloging has immeasurably helped our hobby.
