Lehmann Kadi Mechanical Tin Toys For Sale EPL 733

Set of Desirable Tin Kadi Chinaman moving a tea cart or chest from Lehmann. Condition is working and all original with beautiful blue, white, and gold lithography.

Strong condition original lithography with light play wear as expected.  Heads flop for added action and have neck chipping as expected.  Chipping present on hand rails.  Eye, mouth, and face detailing strong with well executed hand painted accents. Hand painted red pant legs set off the toy.  Delicate hair with braids present.

Feet get pulled along and “walk” as the central flywheel powers the toy inside the cart.   There are spurs to spin it or one can add in a string like a spinning top.  This is the more expensive two man cart with desirable lithographed shirts with the repeating stylized “L” for Lehmann logo.

The tea cart (tea was held in high honor and a special event) noted the exotic names of Peking, Nanking, Canton, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tientsin.

Length is noted at 18cm long, 14cm high.  Production appears just after World War One and ended around 1927.

Lehmann toys are prized by collectors and noted for their sturdy construction and mechanical play value.  Designs were often protected and patented with vigor, which protected many of the unique designs as much as possible.  Lehmann had a devastating fire in 1895, but managed to rebuild and excel in later years thanks to an insurance pay out.  Oil laden rags were blamed.
