Popeye the sailor toys are always sought after, and our toy here is the one to seek for a fair price.  It is a windup Popeye with a spinach on serving tray, likely made the Japanese company T.P.S. -Licensed by King Features.

Our toy is an original working windup but with a replacement pipe tip.  The action works well and it scoots properly, or should we say roller skates mechanically and properly.

Marx toys of the U.S. chose to subcontract out certain toys from Japan, and this was one that fell in that category.  Then, to distinguish from U.S. made Marx toys, they were labeled “LineMar” (like Lineup of Marx). Linemar toy product number J-1531

The windup works well and one leg scoots forward on the ground with skates and turning power wheels, then the other undulates as the toy balances while scooting forward.  It is a great action toy and does justice to the Popeye litho.
