Pratt & Letchworth Horse Drawn Fire Ladder *SOLD*

Pratt & Letchworth Horse Drawn Fire Ladder For Sale

Our horse drawn Fire Ladder Truck was made circa 1885.  You will have to pardon blemishes and challenges from time.   The set was made of malleable cast iron (bendable just a bit), and runs at large and conservative 25″ in length.

All P&L aka Pratt and Letchworth toys are revered for their thin and delicate lines that took expert crafting and mold making.  Metal had to be poured at an exacting temperature for the iron to flow out.  Sand casting dies had to be perfectly executed to smooth toys, and sand needed to be a very special pick. -Old school skills that have been lost.

The set is a beautiful red and green paint scheme with black highlights.  The fireman are original and one has its hat with nice detailing on the face and body.

Both horses are restored for this set.  One was missing and recast, then our restorer expertly painted both to match.  Then the rear leaf springs on the ladder wagon were re-riveted into place.  Ladders are replaced.

Front horses gallop as the toy gets pulled along.  The front double tree has a working bell and gong that chime away.
