MetalCraft Heinz 57 Light Up Pressed Steel Truck *SOLD*

MetalCraft  Heinz 57 Light Up pressed steel truck for sale

MetalCraft toys are notorious for not surviving.  We were thrilled to find an untouched, likely unplayed with Heinz 57 truck locally.  It is all original and works, with light up headlights. -Note, MetalCraft toys were made in St. Louis, MO.

The paint on these was always thin and deep bends in the steel always cause some flaking.  This truck was untouched and is an extremely nice example that is unrestored.

Tires are rubber, and the front grill along with rim accents have a phosphate style green translucent paint on them.  Bodywork is white, and the stickers are a thicker plastic than most toys of the era.  As said before, this light up version works and is a more deluxe model.

The oft missing tailgate is still there with what looks like a price tag string.

Our toy came from a family estate and was put up, unused and then recently found.

Text from the forgotten Metalcraft.com site: ” Metalcraft Toys began as Metallic Industries in 1920. G. Carlton Hosch had a vision to make toys for two or more children to play with together. Many of the first toys that he and his company made were playground type toys. In 1926, sales of these types of toys began to decline. So Mr. Hosch went back to the drawing board and decided to rename the company “Metalcraft Juniors.” In addition to renaming the company, they began to offer airplanes and building sets. These were very successful because, for a small price, parents were able to buy their children one package that could make many different types of airplane or train construction sets.
In 1931, Metalcraft designed a series of small, pressed steel trucks that sold for only 25 cents each. They had perfect timing with the creation of these trucks because the peak of The Great Depression forced families to downsize their spending. The pressed steel trucks have been by far their most popular toy ever produced. The production of these toys lasted from 1931 to the beginning of World War II. At that point the company faded away.”
