Tammany Bank or Fat Man Bank by J.E. Stevens *SOLD*

Tammany Bank or Fat Man Bank
Date: Approximately early 1900s
Material: Cast Iron
Company:  J.E. Stevens, possible copy or prototype or odd variation
Size: x
Country of Origin: U.S,
Condition: Used
Notes:  This is quite a beautiful coloration, with creamy white on the vest and black to dark blue coloration on the jacket.  The pants are a worn black with blue undertones near the belt.  The chair back is actually a very light brown, almost like a Japanning process.
History:  This is an early 19th century, likely copy, of the J.E. Stevens Tammany or Fat Man mechanical bank.  We haven’t been able to finalize the full history and are still researching.  Right now we note exceptional casting and exceptional fit and smoothness.  This may have been done by US collectors with exacting detail.  We still haven’t shaken the notion that there is more history to tell with this toy, as it is so very well executed…. a sample, prototype, trial?  -More research to come.  Feel free to drop us a line using  toys(@)antiquetoys.com  email.

Description

Here we have a J.E. Stevens Tammany bank, but it may be a recasting.  Size appears the same, yet the paint work can’t be authenticated.

Please let us know if you have background on this toy.

Regardless, it is a beautiful toy.  Sometimes these odd items are perfect for the collectors that “have it all”, as it adds a nice variant.
