TPS Tin windup Chef on Roller Skates Japanese Toy

Our tin beauty is a sleeper on skates.  It is a sturdy windup tin by TPS of Japan and a beauty of tin lithography.

One can see this toy and at a glance it isn’t flashy.  But note the eyes and expression as well as tray full of food.  Skates are draped with beautiful tin detail, and then fabric paints are tasteful.  The windup powers this guy through forward rolling action and then leg movement.

Toplay Ltd (1956, Japan), also known as Tokyo Playthings Ltd., are best known by their “three fingers” logo type and initials. They were a third tier manufacturer, and TPS was most active in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s focusing mainly on the younger child’s market segments and creating toys with colorful lithography.
