Tonka Hi-Way Tractor Trailer, Lowboy, with Steam Shovel from 1957 *SOLD*

Tonka Hi-Way Tractor Trailer, Lowboy, with Steam Shovel from 1957 For Sale

This big boy’s toy was the ultimate in play value.  Our set is a 1957 Truck and lowboy with a steam shovel.  It comes with tough-to-find original ramps.

Tonka made incredible and durable toys in the 1950’s and the Hi-Way Dept toys have become some of the most iconic.  The grabber orange/ safety orange can be seen a mile away.  Steel was always extra thick and tires durable.

Our example is in clean original condition with play wear.  It is an honest and unrestored set, featuring very good stickers.

Tonka was begun by Lynn Everett Baker, Avery F. Crounse and Alvin F. Tesch in 1946, but it didn’t start out as Tonka; instead Mound Metalcraft in 1946.   Tesch re-engineered some old toy concepts left by their building’s previous tenants, and dubbed the toys “Tanka,” which means “big” in Dakota Sioux tongue.
