Ubelacker ca. 1900 Paddlewheeler tin boat with Figurehead *SOLD*

Ubelacker Paddlewheeler tin boat with Figurehead For Sale ca 1900

Paddling at approximately 9″ in length, this beautiful hand painted boat comes from Germany ca 1900.  Ubelacker was known to have won prestigious Paris, France toy show awards around this time.  The workmanship is incredible.

First, the boat spins and paddles properly and like a well oiled clock.  We included a very small key that presses into action and can wind up the boat.  Just a half turn produces long lasting action.  It works very well.  The rear flag is a replacement.

Next is the challenging to find and 120 antique figurehead on the bow.  The sea creature/mermaid is painted in gold and is the jewel at the front of our ship.

Planks are tin, but hand painted in brown.  The waterline is an original cream with some chipping and loss at the bow.  The pinstripe is expertly hand painted.  Below the stripe is a thick hand painted red hull.  Finally, Ubelacker put two semi-circles so that the toy could either be sailed or safely rested on a shelf.  The rudder can be positioned and moves freely.

Ubelacker is a toy maker that quite possibly worked with or melded into the Carette line of boat toys.  Toy historians are unsure, but the uniform excellence between both makers suggests a connection and potentially contractor-subcontractor relationship.

We consider this one of the finest ships of its size we have enjoyed.  It is medium in size and massive in quality.
