Alps Cubby the Mechanical Reading Bear Tin Litho Windup from Japan in Original Box

Up for your consideration today is a vintage Alps Cubby the Mechanical Reading Bear, made in Japan. The bear is tin with brown faux fur skin, pink felt clothing, and lithographed shoes and hands. In his magnetic hands is a reading book that is also lithographed tin with a few pages. There is a dedicated key to wind him up. When wound up his magnetic hands turn the pages in the book from one to the next as his head nods. The clockwork mechanism inside is strong and he works smoothly. It is quite interesting to see him do his thing. The bear is in unused condition but there is some yellowing and fading from age. There seems to be a spot of glue that has darkened with age on his pants, you can see this same glue on the straps of his overalls where they were glued to his pants from the factory. It comes with its original box that is in good condition, there is some warping from humidity and the bottom box does have some separation on some of the corners and writing on it. The top box has a couple rips on the front as can be seen in the photos. Cubby is approximately 7” tall. This really is a wonderful little toy and would be an awesome addition to any collection.
