Vintage ca. 1930’s Occupied Japan Mary & Lamb Celluloid/Plastic Windup Toy *SOLD*

Vintage ca. 1930’s Occupied Japan Mary & Lamb Celluloid/Plastic Windup Toy

This is an adorable celluloid/plastic “Mary Had a Little Lamb” Mary and lamb windup manufactured in Occupied Japan. The phrase “Occupied Japan” is found on many collectibles made in Japan after World War II during the years 1947 to 1952.

This duo is wound by a dedicated key located on the right-hand side of Mary’s base. When wound Mary goes forward, and her lamb is sure to follow, bobbing his head while they turn circles. The windup mechanism works as it should. There are no cracks or dents in the celluloid. Mary’s moving arms and the sheep’s bobble head are securely attached. Mary is marked “Made in Japan” on the back of her dress top.

Our example of this Occupied Japan Mary and her Lamb is in excellent all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. This is approximately 6” L altogether (lamb and Mary on platforms), 2 ¾” W at its widest (Mary’s Base) 5” H at its tallest (Mary). We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.
