Vintage Kuramochi Shoten\Kuramochi & Co., Ltd. (CK) “For Mahim” Celluloid Windup Elephant Merry-Go-Round Cart with Box, Japanese Toy

Celluloid toys have fallen out of fashion, but when you see them in person and see them boxed, one realizes you just need the right toy. This is a wonderful vintage celluloid wind-up “For Mahim” elephant and merry-go-round cart, manufactured by Kuramochi Shoten\Kuramochi & Co., Ltd. (CK) of Japan.

This elephant with two mahouts/riders has a wonderful Indian palace scene merry-go-round cart that can be detached to store it in the box. When wound with its dedicated key, the elephants head nods up and down while the merry-go-round spins the palace scene and colorful balls. When it spins it plays random tinkling sounds. It does not move forward on its own as it was not designed to do so. The wind-up is very strong and everything works as it should. The string within the head that holds the head to the body and facilitates the nodding action is original and still holding strong. The colors are super strong and the paint and over spray is common on these toys.

This piece comes with its original box that is also in good original condition, with its bright artwork and pattern. The box has the Kuramochi Shoten\Kuramochi & Co. “C.K” logo in a diamond that says “Trademark” above it and “Reg. Japan U.S.A India” below it.

This piece is in excellent original condition, with no cracks in the celluloid. We have detected no restorations, repairs, or touch ups. It only shows very minimal if any of the usual patina, scratches, scuffs and chips that are seen with age and display. It measures approximately 11 ¾” long and 10 ¼” at its highest point. This is such a wonderful toy that anyone would be lucky to have in their collection. We encourage you to examine the photographs to further determine condition and quality.
