Wilkins Kearsarge Battleship Cast Iron *SOLD*

Wilkins Kearsarge Battleship cast iron

Our boat doesn’t want to sail away from us, but we begrudgingly offer it for sale.  It is an incredibly challenging to find toy and in original condition.

The colors are very vivid, with gold, yellow, off white, black stenciling of Kearsage, and other color accents.  The delicate pull toy wheel is still there in excellent condition too.  One mast broke at the base and has been reglued. The pin striping and red stacks set this apart from other toys in our collection (as does its size at 14″).

Wilkins made this toy in the late 1890’s along with another boat, a steam boat.  This toy has the similar light yellow deck accents.

The Kearsarge-class battleships were two pre-dreadnought battleships built for the United States Navy at the beginning of the 20th century. They were designed to be used for coastal defense. Both of the ships, USS Kearsarge and USS Kentucky, were authorized in 1895 and commissioned in 1900. This ship participated in the Great White Fleet, the oldest ships on the cruise.
