This classic battleship is a crazy American combination of a thick tin hull, brass appointments, and wood!

The windup mechanism works and can last for minutes.  Springs were made for long lasting power.

Yes, our ship comes in a dark grey and green color scheme, but is actually an ingenious combination of toy materials.  The wood guns and stands and deck appointments make it a unique ship.  Hull size at 25″ in length also make it a sought after collection center-piece.

On the aft rudder area we see New York stickers declaring the patriotic toy’s namesake and ship name.  Ship collectors tend to drift towards nationalistic names, and NY is a great draw.

Condition is original and unrestored.  Guns are in good turning condition with play wear and some wood chips.  There are paint chips throughout as is common with this Orkin model of toy.  Hull paint is in very good condition for the age.

The Orkin toy company was based in Cambridge Massachusetts and named after the owner, Mr. Samuel Orkin. It appears the company started just after World War 1 in the early 1900’s. Orkin toys produced large metal ships of tin and pressed steel that had mechanical wind-up mechanisms for their motor boats.
