Non-Pariel Sand and Gravel Truck, Chein For Sale

Our unmarked toy may be the piece we’ve been missing on history.  It is an unmarked toy truck often called a J Chein Sand and Gravel Truck.  This said, it has been marked before as a “Non Pareil” brand toy from earlier research.

So, we have a traditional toy.  Both toy companies were based in New Jersey, so there was obviously some parts making synergy or simply a buyout of Non Pareil (Newark NJ) by Chein (One plant was in Harrison, NJ, by Newark).  Then Chein and Mohawk Toys are intertwined by family.  Research continues!

As to our toy, it is in very good condition considering the raw metal was left underneath for cost savings (typical Non Pareil).  Also, this toy didn’t come with a driver or bench as we can tell.   The base even has a hand painted quality to save precious paint, avoiding the cockpit area.

Lithography has some waves and scrapes, but is simply brilliant for a 100 year old toy.  We believe this circa 1920.

P.S. We recently learned that Non-Pareil was a subsidiary of Ives, but for their cheap toy lineup.  They utilized tooling already made by other companies on a royalty basis.   Saul and David Weil, and Samuel Hoffman were founders and former J Chein workers.
