ALPS (12) Set of Tin Lithographed Friction Butterflies in Box 

These pieces are vintage, tin, lithographed, friction powered butterflies in box that were manufactured by ALPS/Alps Shoji Ltd. of Japan.  

ALPS made battery-operated mechanical toys (robots, cars, musical chimps, clowns, wind-up animals) and produced some of the better-quality Japanese toys throughout the post-war years. Alps Shoji Ltd. Tokyo, Japan was founded in 1948 and was specialized in toy vehicles and novelties. 

These bugs all have rubber tires and when revved up they travel forward. The friction mechanisms work as they should. Box is in good condition and is original. There are 12 butterflies in all, 6 with the redder color and 6 with the greener color.  

These pieces are in excellent all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. These pieces show the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and display. These are approximately 4″ L x 5” W.
