Woolsey Mfg. Co. Mechanical Cast Iron Football Player *SOLD*

Woolsey Mfg. Co. Mechanical Cast Iron Football Player

This is a ca. 1925 mechanical cast iron football kicker that was manufactured by the Woolsey Manufacturing Company of the United States. We were unable to find much history on Woolsey Mfg. Co.; however, we did find out that this toy is frequently misidentified as being manufactured by Hubley.

This painted cast iron football player was the primary component of a game which originally included a fiberboard back ground with a tin lithographed football, although, we have seen it like ours with a rubber-like football. The football player has a spring-operated right leg, that when pulled back and clicked into position kicks the football when the lever at the back is released. The ball can be placed vertically or horizontally on the sliding “cup” at the front. The position of the “cup” determines how hard the ball is kicked. The mechanism on ours works and our football player kicks the football quite a few feet.

Our example of this Woolsey Mfg. Co. Cast iron football player is in great all original condition with no breaks, restorations, or repairs. We do want to mention that the helmet in the front is professionally touched up to match the excellent shape of the rest of this hand painted piece. This piece shows the usual fading, patina, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. It is approximately 7” L x 3 ¼” at the base with the whole piece being 8 ¾” H. We encourage you to peruse our photos to further determine quality and condition.
