Arnold No. 750/3 German Tin Windup Ocean Liner *SOLD*

Arnold No. 750/3 German Tin Windup Ocean Liner

This 1920’s No. 753/3 ocean liner is by well esteemed maker Arnold of Nuremberg, Germany. This 3 funneled windup red and navy blue hulled ocean liner has a clockwork drive with one propelling screw. This is one of the smaller Arnold ships coming in at is approximately 23cm or 8.75” in length. Condition wise, there are some chips in the paint as well as some paint missing on the rudder. This is of course to be expected with age and play. There have been some touch ups done in various locations where at some point in this ocean liners life small specks of paint spattered on it. The deck has strong lithographs and does also have some paint spatter. There is a stamp on the bottom that says “Made in Germany”. The flag on the stern is missing. This does come with a key that works with it but it is not original to this boat as this boat originally came with a crank type key. The windup is still strong and gets the prop to spinning nicely. Arnold was based in Germany and always had a knack for producing high quality toys with great features for a fair price.

For those that don’t know, Karl Arnold was born in 1865 in Bavaria.  Then at the age of 41 he founded the company for mechanical toys in Nuremberg (1906).There is a wonderful book entitled Arnold – The Toys from 1906 until 1965 that shows more on this German maker.  I recommend Ulrich Schweizer’s book wholeheartedly, especially to the person that purchases this solid and iconic tin ship.
