Buddy L Express Truck With Desirable Rear Dual Tires, Original For Sale

This toy has been on our list for some time to enjoy in the flesh, or steel in this case.  It is a post stock market crash early 1930’s Buddy L Express Truck.  These are the largest of the lineup and a bit wider than the normal truck within the oversized lineup.  The Express Truck Rear cage comes off, and then the toy has the luxurious appointments of a front license plate and headlights.  These later disappeared, as they were costly.

We emphasize that these extra tall Goodyear rubber tires and Headlights are the most desirable of the variations.

Buddy L did this toy right on all levels except paint.  As with the Jr Lineup, the paint tended to flake with age.  The steel, of course, is still as stout as day one of age.

Condition is good for the age (nearing 90) and original.  The fenders have only partial paint and surface rust.  The bed has flaking of paint and also the same surface rust.  Stickers are original and chipped.  The bumper chrome is worn and shows corrosion.  Original tires exhibit cracking, but are all there.  Original rear Express Truck doors work and are in good condition.  The original tailgate is there and works too.

Size on the Express Truck is extra large as shown by the measuring tape, close to 26″ in length.  Weight is over 10 pounds of heft; conservatively.

In terms of production, our example is quite sought after and relatively rare.  These deluxe post depression toys were too expensive for most families.  Sales were poor, and the production tanked, then was replaced with cheaper models.  It was a roaring 1920’s evolutionary dead end.  These Buddy L toys were too complicated, too heavy, too expensive, and too costly to make for further evolution.  Dare we say ‘They Won’t make ‘Em like that again…,”
