Vindex Cast Iron 11″ Race Car #2 *SOLD*

Vindex Cast Iron Race Car #2 For Sale- 11″ L

This beautiful race car may be one of the nicest large cast iron speedsters made in the 30s.  Catalogs for Vindex (sewing machine company) toys appear to start around 1931.  The company tried to diversify into “cheaper toys” for the Great Depression but missed the mark.  Toys needed to be cheaper than their pricing.

So we see few of these racers surviving.  In fact, this is the only one we have been offered in years.

Our red racer has gold highlights and rubber (petrified) tires along with nickel plated spoked rims.  The driver is removable and the toy was often pulled using a string from the front hole.

Condition on ours is good, but it had to have the driver replaced by an expert caster in cast iron.  It is an exacting replacement.  Then at the rear axle drop down, the clicker had to be replaced also. It barely functions as a clicker due to rim wear.  Otherwise, the condition is just as you would expect with a loved toy that was enjoyed over multiple generations.

We were excited to see the original Vindex sticker in yellow still present.
