AC Gilbert Stutz Bearcat Pressed Steel Lithographed Windup for Sale *SOLD*

AC Gilbert Stutz Bearcat Pressed Steel Lithographed Windup

This yellow car is celebrating its 115 year anniversary!  Manufacturing date has been traced roughly to 1914.  It is a looker and a surprisingly heavy and well thought out windup race car toy.

Yellow paint, striping, parts, driver, and all are completely original on this 9″ long toy.  The nickel/stainless chassis is still bright and well preserved.

Metal work is on the edge of tin and pressed steel.  It is a light gauge steel, a bit heavier than most classic tin.  The chassis is definitely a high quality and more of a plated steel.  Wheels appear tin.  The driver is a tin lithograph.   The entire material choice is of superior build, something to expect from an engineering firm as AC Gilbert.

The working windup is a very interesting and complicated, early, setup with the car winding up longitudinally.  It has a crank on the front, just like cars of its day.  Wheels then engage and power the car with a strong mechanism.  Front tires have a mechanical detente, a holding spot, to steer right, left, or straight.

Our example of this piece is in excellent all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. This is approximately 9″ L x 3 ½” W. We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.
