Althof Bergmann ca. 1800’s Tin Toy Dog with Pail on Platform Pull Toy *SOLD*

Althof Bergmann ca. 1800’s Tin Toy Dog with Pail on Platform Pull Toy

We have for you a ca. 1800’s tin hand painted dog with pail on platform pull toy manufactured by Althof Bergmann of New York City, New York.

Those who collect tin toys from the 19th century recognize how challenging they are to find now. Most were recycled or thrown away. Then, of course, their paintwork was never meant to last. Much of the painting was done with home brewed or very primitive mixtures where didn’t always stay stable. So, this said, we have an original dog with pail on platform toy to share. It is a beautiful and artistic item begging for a collector’s top shelf. It has paint loss and darkening, but the toy is quite original and comes our way from a deep toy collection.

For its age, our example of this tin dog on platform pull toy is in great original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, dust, chips, scuffs, scratches, surface rust and wear that are to be expected from age and play. It is approximately 6 ½” L. We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.
