American Flyer Lines Pre-War Cast Iron Windup #37 “Empire Express” O-Gauge Locomotive and Tender 

We have for you this pre-war #37 cast iron windup locomotive and tin lithographed tender with battery operated light “Empire Express” train set manufactured by American Flyer of Chicago, Illinois.     

The windup on this is in working condition and the light lights up.  

This piece is in great all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch-ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. A brief history of American Flyer of Chicago, Illinois: 

1907-1938 

Acquired by A.C. Gilbert 

Specialty: Electric train engines and rolling stock. Also produced a popular line of comic figures on bicycle gravity toys, including Charlie Chaplin, Uncle Sam, Roosevelt Bears (Circa 1912). A.C. Gilbert revitalized the ailing American Flyer line; following the second world war, it moved to “S” gauge models, retaining the American Flyer name.
