Arnold ca. 1950’s TL-1920 Hochzeitsauto “Tin Lizzy” Tin Lithographed Old Jalopy Car with Figures for Parts

This is a for parts ca. 1950’s tin, lithographed TL-1920 Hochzeitsauto “Tin Lizzy” old jalopy car manufactured by Arnold Co. of Nuremberg, Germany.  

This does not come with the remote that would have been attached at the back. The black rubber tires are still intact, but as per usual with toys of this age they have may have petrified, warped, and/or cracked. The car does roll forward and backwards by hand. The 4 figures in the car are original. This car does not have its often-missing celluloid windshield or the fragile headlights. The rumble seat is attached and bounces as it should. The license plates on the front and rear read, “TL-1920”. The elaborate lithography shows sayings of a time gone by when friends would pile in the old jalopy to travel about.  

Our example of this Arnold “Tin Lizzy” has no restorations, repairs, or touch ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. This piece is approximately 9 ½” L x 4” W. Specialty: Stationary steam accessories; nautical toys. Introduced “Rapido” gauge “N” model railroads in 1960s. 

For those that don’t know, Karl Arnold was born in 1865 in Bavaria. Then at the age of 41 he founded the company for mechanical toys in Nuremberg (1906). There is a wonderful book entitled Arnold – The Toys from 1906 until 1965 that shows more on this German maker. I recommend Ulrich Schweizer’s book wholeheartedly, especially to the person that purchases this solid any of the iconic tin ships.
