Cox Buggy Race .049 Gas Car
Wow! Memories! This is a late 60’s and early 1970’s Cox buggy. It is a pre-radio controlled car, and it uses gas.
These were fixed into a turn, then given nitro with glow plug warmed, and then flywheel started. Our variation appears to get either a fast hand or drill start flywheel. It is a variation we haven’t seen before.
The glitzy orange metal flake plastic is, well, groovy and sets off the Speed Buggy TV cartoon style toy. Kids could just flip the top on it, add in more nitro laden fuel and then have this speed off in a parking lot. From the videos we’ve seen, speed is around 6 mph. Our toy hasn’t been run and would require fuel, an electric connection for warming the plug and know-how. We don’t know these toys and will leave it as found.
The box has tape on the front corner, but is otherwise in good used condition. The insert is present, and the box bottom has some fuel stains.
What a great toy for R/C collectors. This is the grand-daddy or precursor to R/C cars and an evolution from teather style racers!
