From the “Little Giant Lineup” of toys. No. G140 from the Gotham Pressed Steel Corporation of New York, N.Y.

What a find!  It is not everyday you can find a good condition steel, cardboard, copper, and boxed example of Gotham toys.  Here we need a restorer to take over.  The toy was stored in box, but it does not work now.

As we inspect this toy– ‘Who is Gotham?’ and  ‘Why is this an ‘Electric Boat?’.

We see it is a twin D Cell battery form of a gambling machine.  NO, we will call it a toy with a nod to the “no drinking” and “no gambling” days of America’s past.  Lights appear to light up like a roulette game and then indicate a winner.  Gentleman’s bets could be made and wagers placed.  Again, this is a kids toy (wink, wink, nod, nod).

It is all fun, and we were happy to receive this from its original owner’s family.  The artwork and industrial design have a psychedelic look to it.  Colors pop.

Records indicate that Gotham Pressed Steel filed as a domestic business corporation in 1930.  It may have had an earlier life too, but later evolved into pinball and shooting games for kids.
