Hans Eberl EBO Toys Pao-Pao German Tin Windup Lithographed Walking Peacock Toy*SOLD*

Hans Eberl EBO Toys Pao-Pao German Tin Windup Lithographed Walking Peacock Toy

This “Pao-Pao” tin, windup, lithographed walking peacock was manufactured by Hans Eberl/EBO Toys of Nuremberg, Germany

This beautiful and majestic peacock when wound with its dedicated key shuffles its legs and struts forward dragging its gorgeous plumage behind him. The windup mechanism works as it should. The delicate crest on his head has been professionally restored.  His bellows moves up and down as he walks but it only makes a clicking sound which can happen with these old toys as some fragile parts such as the bellows are known to dry out and crack.

Our example of this Hans Eberl “Pao-Pao” walking peacock is in great all original condition with no breaks, restorations, repairs, or touch ups (other than his crest). This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. It is approximately 9″ L x 6 ¾” H. We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.

A brief history of Hans Eberl/EBO German Toys of Nuremberg, Germany:

EBO German Toys/H.E.N./Hand Eberl was founded around 1900 by Hans Eberl. The company specialized in automotive and toy novelties. The company was best known for their high-quality designs. Eberls toys bear a logo with the initials H.E.N..

This less followed German toy maker sometimes took orders from department stores around the world for special orders. In those requests, a brand-new toy coloration and decoration was tooled up and lithographed. Interestingly, Borgfeldt was a factory agent for Eberl. Unfortunately, it appears that the company folded in the late 1920’s.
