We have for you a celluloid windup cowboy on bucking bronco that was manufactured in Occupied Japan (1945-1952) by Masudaya Modern Toys (MT) of Tokyo, Japan.

Celluloid is very delicate as you may know, so the fact that this little guy has survived in working order is amazing. When wound with his dedicated key, the bronco bucks around while the cowboy hangs on for dear life. We did notice a piece of celluloid missing by the left back hoof, probably due to the bucking around this toy does, and the fragility of the celluloid.

This piece is in very all original condition with no restorations, repairs, or touch-ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. This is approximately 6” L. Masudaya also known as Masudaya Modern Toys was a tin toy manufacturer that was founded in 1923 in Tokyo, Japan. Masudaya was one of the leading builders of tintype mechanical and battery-operated toys in the post-World War II era. Unlike many of their competitors, Masudaya managed to survive to this day, due in part to their involvement in the airsoft gun craze of the 1980s. They are mostly known for basically creating the “skirmishable” airsoft guns that could be used for combat simulations rather than target shooting. Masudaya normally identifies their toys using the M-T, or Modern Toys logo.
