Ohlsson & Rice ca. 1946-1950 Aluminum #3 “Miniature Racing Car” Tether Car

This ca. 1946-1950 aluminum “Miniature Racing Car” Tether Car/Midget Sprint Tether Car was manufactured by Ohlsson & Rice Inc., Los Angeles, California.

Ohlsson and Rice tether cars were first made in 1946. The first models had solid rear brake drums, 10 air vent slots in the seat, an open-air front grill, an external hand brake lever, a windscreen, a manual fuel pump, 4 radius rods, and a plated front axle.

The sport of tether car racing was hugely popular in the middle of the 20th century with a growing interest today. The cars are tethered to a central spindle and pole and race around a banked track at high speeds.

The rubber tires and wheels are in good shape and original. The Rubber is good and not dry-rotted. The bottom is marked “Manufactured by Ohlsson & Rice, Inc. Los Angeles, Calif.” The motor is missing as are the radius rods from the front wheels, you could buy the base model that came this way and/or upgrade to a motorized one.

This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories, and wear that is to be expected from age and play. This is approximately 9 ¾” L.
