This piece is a vintage diecast GB-62 Robot 8-Chan Chogokin robot action figure that was manufactured by Popy Toys/Bandai of Japan.  Popy Toys of Japan started as a subsidiary of Bandai in about 1971.

Offered here is a 1981 Popy Chogokin GB-62 Robot 8-chan die-cast figure from the Toei Fushigi Comedy Series. Made for the Japanese market, this 4½” tall figure features metal and plastic construction and comes complete with all original accessories, including the separate propeller hat. Housed in its original illustrated box with Styrofoam insert and cover, the set includes the Japanese Toei sticker, instruction sheet, and Popy catalog. The figure has multiple interactive features, including an opening head with mirrored interior, a torso that reveals a steering wheel, and split legs that form a wheeled platform. The box shows light corner wear and a partial punch at the GB-62 tab, but remains bright and clean. Overall, a well-preserved and unused example from this iconic Japanese toy line.

It is easy to see how Bandai became the number one toy producer in Japan and the world’s third-largest producer of toys.
