Rare Vintage Masudaya Modern Toys MT Japan Battery Op. Tin Lithographed #9 Race Car with Box

This piece is a rare ca. 1960’s example of the large battery operated tin lithographed model #3339 Record Holder race car made by Masudaya Modern Toys’ (MT) from Japan. The box says that the Record Holder is “Battery Operated” with “Mystery Action”, “Rumbling Sound”, “Flashing Lights”, and “Puffing Off Smoke.” We ran the vehicle shortly to make sure that it works. It made random actions and turns, it sparked, and made “rumbling sounds.” We did not notice any “puffing off smoke”, but we don’t think we ran it long enough to witness that.

While the car is tinplate it does include plastic parts which are in great condition. Included, is the rare original box that is also in fantastic condition. The battery compartment is corrosion and rust free. It is in great all original condition with no restorations, repairs, or touch ups. The lithos are bright and strong with some scratching, wear, chips, and scuffing due to age and handling. The toy is approximately 12 ½” (13” with exhaust pipes) x 5 ¾”

This piece came from a Florida collector and is believed to be near new old stock with very little display. This toy is in over excellent condition and would be great for any vintage toy collector to display. We encourage you to examine the photographs to further determine condition and quality.

A brief history of Masudaya Modern Toys (MT) of Tokyo, Japan:

Masudaya also known as Masudaya Modern Toys was a tin toy manufacturer that was founded in 1923 in Tokyo, Japan. Masudaya was one of the leading builder of tin type mechanical and battery operated toys in the post-World War II era. Unlike many of their competitors Masudaya managed to survive to this day, due in part to their involvement in the airsoft gun craze of the 1980’s. They are mostly known for basically creating the “skirmishable” airsoft guns that could be used for combat simulations rather than target shooting. Masudaya normally identifies their toys using the M-T, or Modern Toys logo.
