Steiff Excelsior Stuffed Mohair Large Sitting Leo Lion, Small Leo Lion, & Small Lea Lioness

We have for you this adorable set of Excelsior stuffed Mohair animals that were manufactured by Steiff of Giengen, Germany.  

The stitching and fur are in great condition. The large Leo lion has his whiskers intact and sports his button and tag. The small Leo lion has only his button on his left ear. The small Lea lion has no tags or buttons.  This set includes a Large Leo Lion in sitting position, a small Leo lion in sitting position, and a small Lea lion in sitting position. We believe these are all ca. 1950s. These come from their original owner.

These pieces are in great all original condition with no breaks, repairs, restorations, or touch-ups. These pieces show the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories, and wear that is to be expected from age and play. They are approximately 8 ½” H (large lion), 4 ½”’ H (small lion), and 4 ½” H (small lioness). We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.  

A brief history of the Steiff of Giengen, Germany:   

1877 to date 

Founder: Margarete Steiff 

Specialty: Stuffed toy animals and character dolls. The founder`s nephew, Richard Steiff, designed the first Teddy Bear in 1903. Steiff button and label identification are stamped in one ear or on clothing, with white and black lettering and blank buttons signifying a 1903-1904 manufacture.
