Steiff Stuffed Mohair Elephant on Wheels Pull Toy 

We have for you this adorable stuffed Mohair elephant on wheels that was manufactured by Steiff of Giengen, Germany. This comes from the Lonny Dossett estate of Florida.  

We believe this to be an early 1900s elephant pull toy. It is stuffed with saw dust like material. The fur seems to be mohair like material and it is worn in some places. We noticed some seams around the mouth area have been resewn, the neck seam is split, and some seams are stretched. There is no Steiff button on this or tags. This is a well-loved and cared-for toy. 

For its age, this piece is in very good all original condition with no breaks, restorations, or touch-ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories, and wear that are to be expected from age and display. This is approximately 17” L (from bum to trunk tip) and 10” H.  We invite you to view the photos to further determine quality and condition.

Founder: Margarete Steiff
Specialty: Stuffed toy animals and character dolls. The founder`s nephew, Richard Steiff, designed the first Teddy Bear in 1903. Steiff button and label identification are stamped in one ear or on clothing, with white and black lettering and blank buttons signifying a 1903-1904 manufacture.
