Georg Kohler (GNK) ca. 1940’s Tin Lithographed Windup “Puss in Boots” German Toy with Box

This is a great vintage ca. 1940’s tin lithographed windup “Puss in Boots” manufactured by Georg Kohler (GNK) of Nurnberg, Germany.

Puss works with some encouragement and when he is held in the air everything works brilliantly. When wound he walks in his plastic red boots as he swings his arms and moves forward, moving his cane and bag as he does so. He is marked “Ges.Gesch.Germany” on his bottom. Ges.Gesch, generally makes people think this is a brand or a designer, however, it means “registered mark” in German. The term Ges. Gesch is an abbreviation for “Gesetzlich Geschutzt” and is the German equivalent of a trademark, copyright, or patent and the translation of Gesetzlich Geschutzt literally means legally protected. He has the Greppert and Kelch logo on him as well. The original felt ears were missing, but they have been professionally restored to complete the toy. The box is in fair condition with the top flap missing and some of the back paper has pulled off.

Our example of this piece is in great all original condition with no breaks or touch-ups. This piece shows the usual patina, fading, dust, chips, scuffs, surface rust, scratches, missing accessories, and wear that are to be expected from age and play. It is approximately 5 ¼” L x 2 ½” W x 5” H. We encourage you to examine the photographs to further determine condition and quality.
